Meldola
THE REGION
The territory of the sub-area is very wide and extends on the right side valley of the Bidente stream all the way to the Savio valley.
This sub-area lives with some large contradictions as its is without regulations on the left bank of the Bidente valley (which falls within the Predappio appellation) as well as currently being very sparsely planted with vines (although until the post-WWII period it was one of the most intensively planted areas in the Region).
The shallow soil features red clay with plenty of limestone, average altitude is 150-250m asl.
THE WINES
Although the soil is similar to that of Oriolo and Serra it is poorer and more calcareous, therefore the wines remain generous in fruit but more balanced and longer lived.
