THE REGION
This is the westernmost area of the appellation, and features an essentially continental climate.
It covers the hilly part of the Santerno valley. The soil is essentially fertile and clayey, brown and at times grey. Viticulture is concentrated in the first hilly range between 30 and 150 m asl.
The main production areas lie on the hills above the town of Imola (fertile and brown clay) and in the Dozza district (ochre and orangey clay).
THE WINES
The wines cannot use the name of a sub-area but may be produced as DOC Colli di Imola Sangiovese (as well as Romagna Sangiovese without geographic mention).
the wines are fruity, often voluminous, at times with marked tannin.
