THE REGION
This is the easternmost area of the appellation, and its climate is strongly affected by the Adriatic sea.
The soil is fertile and clayey but with quite marked variations in type and altitude within the province.
The region may be divided into four quadrants separated by the line of the ravines (from east to west) and by the road linking Rimini to San Marino (from north to south): Santarcangelo, Torriana, Coriano, San Clemente and the most central area corresponding to the San Giovanni in Marignano district.
THE WINES
While awaiting the reform of the regulations (2016), the wines cannot use the name of a sub-area but may be produced as DOC Colli di Rimini Sangiovese (as well as Romagna Sangiovese without sub-area). Rimini wines have power and concentration in their DNA. In the areas closer to the sea, tannic nervousness increases, which is at least partly loosened and offset by the acidity in the higher areas over the line of the ravines.
